Dr. Hatem Zgallai | Plant Physiology | Research Excellence Award

INRAT | Tunisia

Dr. Zgallai Hatem is an accomplished researcher in agronomy and applied biological sciences, specializing in plant ecophysiology, water stress adaptation, and sustainable agriculture in semi-arid environments. He holds a PhD from Ghent University (Belgium) and currently serves as Maître-Assistant at the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Tunisia (INRAT). His research integrates physiological, biochemical, and agronomic approaches to enhance crop resilience, particularly in olive, wheat, and horticultural systems. Dr. Zgallai has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, contributing significantly to understanding plant responses to abiotic stress and resource-efficient farming practices. He has led and participated in major international projects, including European Union-funded initiatives such as H2020 and bilateral collaborations with Italy, emphasizing wastewater reuse and sustainable intensification. His work demonstrates strong societal impact by supporting climate-resilient agriculture, improving soil fertility, and promoting eco-friendly practices across Mediterranean regions.
